Welcome!  Hi, I’m Kelly.  I began blogging and photographing as the dSLR newbie in January 2010.

Here’s how it all started:

I was in trouble – my precious memories were starting to come out blurry. Luckily, since I only recently entered into my thirties, there wasn’t permanent damage.  No, the solution was easily remedied by giving my Casio Exilim point-and-shoot camera a long overdue kick to the curb.  The last straw was this photo taken on my 4th wedding anniversary.  I surprised my husband by putting our anniversary announcement on the jumbo-tron at a hockey game we attended.  Full well knowing my Casio had a bad habit of not focusing properly, I even took a practice shot.  But when the moment came and I had a window of 5 seconds to capture it, my point-and-shoot let me down dearly…

Though the picture turned out unreadable, the sentiment was at least well received, for my husband gifted me with my very first digital SLR camera that Christmas.  A Nikon D3000.  And I wanted to learn how to actually use it – without the automatic button (AUTO).

Which brings us to this blog:  a loose collection of my self-study to start using all the buttons on my camera and know when to apply them.

Sometimes I’ll read photography books.  More so often, I grab my camera and go on photo expeditions (solo missions or with the shutterbug club), or snap pictures for a weekly photo challenge.  All serve as inspiration for me to continue learning and be more creative in my daily life; sharing my experiences on this blog keeps me motivated in doing just that.

My hope is that it does the same for you.  Or that you at least get a kick out of the many pictures you’ll find here of, in my opinion, the best dog in the world.

Thanks for visiting!
